Forward deployed AI engineer
I join your team, in your Slack and your repo, find the work worth automating, ship it, and stay on call once it's live.
The short answer
Updated
A forward deployed engineer works inside your team instead of building from a distance. I join your Slack, your repo and your standups, find the work worth automating, build it into your real systems and stay on call after launch. It's quoted per month, and the first two weeks show you whether it's working.
- Typical budget
- Quoted after a call
- Timeline
- Monthly, from a 2 week start
- How it's quoted
- Quoted per month after a short call. Part time or full time, on your hours.
I don't send a deck. I join your standup.
Most AI projects don't fail because of the model. They fail in the gap between the people who know the work and the people writing the code. A forward deployed engineer closes that gap by sitting on both sides of it.
So I work as part of your team. I join your Slack and your standups, watch how the work is done today, pick the part worth automating, build it into your real systems and stay on call once it's live. Agents, chatbots, MCP servers, security fixes: whatever the job needs, one person answers for all of it.
A good fit if
- You have an AI pilot that impressed everyone and then stalled
- Your engineers are busy and nobody owns the AI work
- You need someone who can talk to the ops team and the codebase on the same day
- You want help for months, not a one-off build and a goodbye
What you get
- 01
An engineer on your team
In your Slack, your repo and your standups, on hours that overlap with yours. Not a ticket queue at an agency.
- 02
The right thing to build
A short written plan after the first two weeks: which workflow to automate first, what to leave alone, and how we'll measure it.
- 03
Working software every week
Small releases into your real systems, with tests and evals, so you see progress instead of status reports.
- 04
Code your team can keep
Docs, walkthroughs and handover as we go, so nothing depends on me being there forever.
How a project runs
Weeks 1 to 2
Embed
I join your tools and sit with the people who do the work. By the end of week two you get a short plan.
Month 1 onwards
Ship
The first workflow goes into production in slices, with a person reviewing until the logs say it's safe.
Ongoing
Widen
The next workflow, the next team. Each one measured against how it was done before.
Ongoing
Stay on call
Live systems break. I'm there for the debugging, the model upgrades and the integration nobody documented.

Questions people ask
What is a forward deployed engineer?
An engineer who works inside the client's team instead of building from a distance. The title comes from Palantir, which sent engineers to sit with its customers. The job is part engineering, part finding out what the business actually needs.
How is it different from hiring a freelancer for a project?
A project freelancer builds what's in the spec and moves on. A forward deployed engineer helps write the spec, builds it, and stays accountable once it's live, including the messy weeks after launch.
Do you work on our hours?
Yes. I'm in Surat, India, and I move my day to overlap with yours, from US mornings to Australian evenings.
Full time or part time?
Either. Some teams have me most of the week, others a few days. We agree it up front and adjust as the work changes.
Is this only for AI work?
Mostly, but not only. The same setup covers security fixes, upgrades and the product around the AI. Whatever is in the way of it running in production.
How much does a forward deployed engineer cost?
It's quoted per month after a short call, based on how much of the week you need. Monthly, from a 2 week start.
What do you need from us to start?
One person who owns the problem, access to the tools the work touches, and a channel in your Slack or whatever your team uses.
